The Obvious Advocate - Climate

For those who may want to know: we sold our Lake Vermilion property on Oct. 30th. Nobody in the family (or friends) are very happy about not having their cabin on Lake Vermilion to go to…especially the two that lived there and had been enjoying a world-class setting for 16 years. But the kids and grandkids were coming up less and less.

So, we sadly moved into our townhouse in Mtka. And, on Dec. 18th, after a rather extensive search, we purchased a new home on a wildlife area on Minnehaha Creek. We went from a cabin – still a “cabin” even if a gray cedar shake Nantucket/Cape Cod – to an interesting rather sprawling contemporary. I’ll miss the forest and boating on the lake, but the creek will be my new playground. We are even able to put a dock on the creek. I can kayak easily to Lake Mtka, my old stomping grounds, to the west and Minnehaha Falls to the east (including a few portages).

All our kids and grandkids (12 now) are in the western suburbs … so, now, are we. They’re all in sports and now we won’t have to drive 230 miles to watch them play.

So, ready or not, all moved and settled in, I’m back to blogging. If you recall, I began blogging a few years ago with “Angels and Assholes.” I still believe the biggest assholes (aside from the separation of children from their parents, which for me is almost too abhorrent to even talk about) are those in the pharmaceutical business whose strategy for financial success is the abuse of people who will pay anything to stay alive (and, of course, those asshole politicians whose personal and professional advancement is contingent on supporting profit over goodwill. This profit over goodwill includes, of course, climate change deniers. But, we now have a little angel on the scene, Greta Thornberg, who is not only calling these assholes out, but also us adults that don’t vote in leaders with perspective and that care about the effects of aberrant human behavior.

Besides moving, I’ve had a full knee replacement (another reason for my blog break). It seems I’ve been biting my tongue so long it’s a bloody stump … well, a little hyperbole, but there’s serious shit coming down that I just can’t shut-up about (sorry). The paramount being how our aberrant behavior is affecting our very home -- our earth. I just don’t get it. Scientists are not political. They have no motivation to lie. They tell the truth. I do not want to be part of an apathetic generation that contributed to or stood by comfortably numb and watched our planet’s demise, do you?

It’s obvious we are destroying our planet and life on it. If you don’t believe so, please educate yourselves. My grandkids depend on it. More to come…
